Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing health concern, affecting millions worldwide. While managing CKD requires multiple lifestyle modifications, dietary adjustments play a crucial role. High Protein Intake: Potential Risks for CKD Patients

Traditionally, high protein diets were recommended for individuals with CKD. However, recent studies have suggested that excessive protein consumption may not be beneficial for this population. Researchers have found that high protein intake may increase intraglomerular pressure, a key factor in glomerular hyperfiltration and subsequent kidney damage.

Glomerular hyperfiltration occurs when the kidneys are forced to filter an excessive amount of blood, which can strain and overwork the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units in the kidneys. Over time, this increased workload can lead to the progression of CKD and potentially result in kidney failure.

As a result of these findings, healthcare professionals are now recommending a moderate protein intake for individuals with CKD. This approach aims to strike a balance between providing sufficient protein for bodily needs while minimizing the risks associated with excessive consumption.
